Matilda's Story 01/05/10
Just hours old, the tiny cries of a newborn puppy were barely heard in a Long Beach park trash can. Lying in a plastic bag with her brother who had already died, Matilda fought hard to survive the enormous cruelty dealt to her in her first few hours of life. Animal Control transported the pup to the local shelter, but AALOC was not granted permission to rescue Matilda until almost 3 agonizing hours later. Rushed by our volunteer to Advanced Critical Care in Tustin, the fragile newborn's temperature was well below normal at only 93 degrees and she gasped for every breath. Critical care veterinary staff struggled to give her every chance to do what she wanted so badly....to live, but Matilda passed away 6 hours later, never having enjoyed a belly rub, a dog cookie, a walk.
It is impossible to understand how anyone could inflict such cruelty on helpless, defenseless animals, but because of the donations and generosity of AALOC supporters we are able to give hope and every possible chance to suffering animals.
