A letter from Oreo's rescuer:
About 1 1/2 years ago, my neighbor, her children and her dog were being abused/beaten by her husband. She was overwhelmed and ended up neglecting the dog so badly that he lost 20 pounds and was on the verge of death.
Being an animal lover I immediately took him to the vet where he was in critical care for 3 days. After his recovery I spoke to her about his situation since he was near
death and she immediately passed the blame on her children.
Nevertheless she stated that she did not want him because the damage
from starvation has caused him to require a low dose of thyroid medication twice a day.
Oreo came to live with me and my 3 other dogs.
The vet thinks that Oreo is about 9 years old and is a poodle/pointer mix, which means he sheds very very little. He is still very active and will chase a cat if given a chance. He loves to go on walks and to cuddle. He is even great when I need to cut his hair and put clothes on him when it is cold! I wish I could keep him but I lost my job and my home.
Oreo is still a bit cautious around strangers initially but warms up. He is amazing with my other dogs. He is such a wonderful dog and deserves the best but I am only able to keep him until February and then I will be forced to take him to the shelter.
