  Kyle
Breed: Shepherd Mix
Sex: Male
Age: 6 Yrs.
Size: 70 lbs.

Just six months old, Kyle had already been through rough journey, one that has taken him from abuse as a helpless pup, to abandonment in the desert, and finally, to years of loneliness waiting for a home in a kennel. Fleeting moments of happiness in his life have been few and far between. The scars are there, emotionally. Physically, he is a beautiful, remarkable dog with soulful eyes. He longs to be close to someone, but with humans letting him down over and over again, it is hard fo him to trust new faces. Maybe he'll growl, maybe he'll snap,maybe...I honestly didn't know what Kyle's reaction would be when I was asked to pick him up from the vet's office one night. He didn't know me,and he'd been sedated earlier for a procedure, but I was the only volunteer available. Kyle was brought out on a leash to me and as I reached out for the leash, my hand coming over his head, he ducked and was alarmed.

Oh boy, I thought, this trip home will be interesting...Kyle, please don't eat me. He jumped in the back seat and we headed back to the kennel... me the stranger, and the dog who doesn't take to strangers too well, He was well-behaved in the backseat, quiet and calm, and as I was fidgeting with the radio, he moved in...his head was now next to mine as he leaned forward between the two front seats, and then...a kiss. Just as sweet lick on the cheek and then a few more. It was as if he knew I was okay, I was helping him, he could trust me. Sometimes a lick is just a lick. Kyle's kiss was; you're okay, thank you for helping me kiss. Every time I see Kyle at the AALOC kennel where he has lived for two years now, I get a kiss. One day, I want it to be a goodbye kiss, a kiss that says, thank you, I love you, I will miss you and then see him give a kiss to a new owner who will never hurt him or abandon him again.
